Our story

The House of Busby was founded in 1986 by Keith Brouze and Mark Gordon. The first Busby retail store specialized in handbags and luggage
and quickly became a brand synonymous in South Africa
with high-quality leather accessories.

A wholesale division was created in 1989, this division continues to
represent international and local brands such as GUESS, Nine West,
Steve Madden, Delsey, Travelite and Busby Leather.

In 1999 Busby’s retail division began acquiring the master licences
for international brands, subsequently becoming South Africa’s leading
master franchisor. Busby Retail has the exclusive rights to top
international brands including Aldo, Forever New,GUESS,
Karen Millen, Mango, Nine West, Call it Spring, Kipling, Tumi.

In 2008 Busby de-listed from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and was acquired by Ethos Private Equity and Sphere Holdings. They continue to drive The House of Busby through sound strategic growth plans and access to capital.

In 2012 Busby and Edcon jointly obtained the exclusive
South African franchise rights to Topshop and Topman.

In 2015 Today, the group employs more than 2 000 people and operates
over 300 stand-alone and concession stores across Sub-Saharan Africa.
